Tevez is now back with City after a lengthy dispute during which he spent more than three months in his native Argentina without the club’s permission.

The striker apologised for his conduct earlier this week and manager Roberto Mancini has said he no longer has a problem with the 28-year-old.

Having Tevez available again will increase the competition for places in City’s attack, but fellow forward Aguero is delighted to have him back for the Premier League run-in.

“Tevez is a big footballer and nobody doubts it. The day he returns [to the team] will be a big day for us,” Aguero said in The Sun.

“I prefer things with him in the squad because he is a very important player for us. I spoke a few times with him while he was absent. He is a super professional and it was up to him to decide about his future.

“I am happy he is back. I think his return could be important for us in the decisive period of this season.

“He has been one of the best forwards in world football over the last few years. City need all the players we have to try and win titles.”

Fantastic
City can go five points clear of Manchester United at the top of the table if they beat Blackburn on Saturday.

And playmaker David Silva claims winning the Premier League would mean as much to him as Spain’s triumphant World Cup campaign in 2010.

“The Premier League and the World Cup are equally important to me,” he was quoted as saying in The Guardian.

“After winning such an important title as the World Cup, to win the Premier League and to see supporters in Manchester who have waited so long to win it would be important to me.

Of course the World up came after the European Championship for Spain [in 2008], so people were used to winning.

“It’s fantastic to see how people forget all the bad things in life when they start celebrating a title like that after so many years.

“I want Manchester people to enjoy this feeling.”

Roberto Martinez insists he made the right decision when he turned down the chance to manage Aston Villa last summer as he wanted repay the faith shown in him by Wigan Athletic.

Back in June, Villa chairman Randy Lerner approached the Latics asking to speak to the 38-year-old about replacing Gerard Houllier in the Villa Park hot seat.

However, after talks with Wigan chairman Dave Whelan, Martinez chose to turn down the Midlands club to stay in the North West.

Martinez is preparing his side to face Villa at the DW Stadium on Saturday with the club bottom of the Premier League and in urgent need of points if they are to avoid relegation.

Despite yet another campaign battling against the drop, the Spaniard insists he has no regrets about staying at Wigan as he felt he needed to repay the club for backing him when the team was struggling.

Loyalty
“I have no regrets. The decision to stay here wasn’t an emotional decision. It was a well thought out decision,” he said.

“It was an agreement and a chance to repay the loyalty and support that the chairman and Wigan in general gave me.

“That was the right decision from a human point of view and that will never change.

“The chairman said he wanted to work three years with me and, no matter what, he would give me support.

“And the truth is that in difficult times he always showed that loyalty and support. When the Villa job came up, that was my time to show my loyalty and my support back to him.”

Liverpool’s England international Steven Gerrard believes the national team could benefit from Fabio Capello’s decision to resign as coach.
Earlier this month the Italian resigned after publicly challenging the Football Association’s decision to strip John Terry of the captaincy.
“I don’t think it will affect the England team,” Gerrard told BBC Sport.
“We’ll get a new manager – it’s a fresh start for everyone. It may be the lift we need to have a successful summer.”
Capello, who had the best winning record of any England manager with a 66.7% win ratio, had been expected to take the team to Poland and Ukraine for Euro 2012 before his surprise departure.
The Italian manager was appointed after England failed to qualify for Euro 2008 and, as well as guiding the team to Euro 2012, took them to the 2010 World Cup before they were knocked out by Germany in a 4-1 last-16 defeat.
Stuart Pearce has stepped into the vacancy as caretaker manager, and Gerrard admits he was shocked to see Capello resign.
“Yes, I was surprised, of course,” said Liverpool captain Gerrard.
“I thought he would stay until the end of the summer, until the end of his contract and then move on, so it was a bit of a surprise.”
On Thursday, Gerrard was named in Pearce’s squad for the friendly against the Netherlands on 29 February – the first time since November 2010 the 31-year-old Liverpool midfielder has been part of the national set-up due to injury.
Gerrard is the favourite to be named captain by Pearce for Wednesday’s friendly after Terry had the armband taken away by the FA last month pending his trial on racial abuse charges.
Ferdinand, who is not in the squad to play the Netherlands, has ruled himself out of the running to replace Terry as England captain but Gerrard said he would be very proud to wear the armband.
“If I get offered it, I’ll take it and I’ll be delighted and I’ll be very proud to take it,” said Gerrard, who was England captain during the 2010 World Cup.
“But it’s not my decision. It’s down to, first of all, who Stuart Pearce wants to lead the team out, then whoever gets the job full time. But I want to be England captain.”

Arsenal’s Andrey Arshavin has rejoined Russian side Zenit St Petersburg on loan until July.

The 30-year-old Russia international has scored just one Premier League goal this season in 19 appearances, coming on 11 times as a substitute.

The Russian captain, who has played 67 times for his country, joined Arsenal from Zenit in January 2009.

He has been the focus for criticism from some Arsenal fans frustrated at the club’s see-saw form this season.

Notably, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger had to defend his decision to replace Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain with Arshavin during a 2-1 defeat by Manchester United in January.

Arshavin, whose Arsenal contract is due to expire in 2013, confirmed the move on his official website on Friday, saying: “I’ve moved to Zenit on loan. Will play in number 29. All the details tomorrow.”

He scored 23 goals in his 98 Premier League appearances for the Gunners and the highlight of his Arsenal career was scoring all four goals in a 4-4 draw at Liverpool in April 2009.

Alan Curbishley has pulled out of the running to succeed Mick McCarthy as Wolves manager, BBC Sport understands.

The former Charlton and West Ham boss is believed to have dropped out because he and chairman Steve Morgan did not share the same vision for the club.

Curbishley, 54, was interviewed for the job along with former Sunderland boss Steve Bruce and Neil Warnock.

Bruce, who has 10 years’ experience as a Premier League manager, is available after being sacked by Sunderland in November 2011.

The 51-year-old cut his managerial teeth at Sheffield United in the 1998-99 season and also had short spells as boss at Huddersfield, Wigan and Crystal Palace before moving to Birmingham in December 2001.

He spent almost six years at St Andrew’s, guiding the club to promotion to the Premier League in his first season and, following relegation in 2005-06, he took the club straight back up.

Bruce left Birmingham for a second spell as Wigan manager in November 2007 before moving on to Sunderland in the summer of 2009.

Wolves are understood to want to hold a second round of interviews with potential candidates, although chief executive Jez Moxey said last week that he was confident of appointing a new manager before the game against Newcastle on 25 February.
